The name Daran has been familiar to us for a long time, first as the frontman of the French band Daran et les Chaises and later as a solo artist. Over 26 years, he has released 10 studio albums and 1 live album. Huit barré, his second album released in 1995, propelled him to the forefront of the French rock scene, thanks in particular to the hit Dormir dehors; the album, now legendary, was recently reissued by Warner for its 30th anniversary in a collector’s double vinyl edition with numerous bonus tracks.
After numerous collaborations with Miossec and Yarol Poupaud, as well as iconic artists like Johnny Hallyday, Francis Cabrel, Maurane, and Jane Birkin, he announced his big return in 2025 with his 11th album, Grand Hôtel Apocalypse. Daran reconnects with incisive rock and powerful melodies. The ingredients: bass, guitar, drums. The method: no effect pedals, just instruments straight into the amps.
Eleven songs explore Daran’s favorite themes: freedom, lost love, the quest for self, and, above all, placing humanity at the center of every story. Written, produced, and recorded across Montreal, Brittany, Mexico, and California, Grand Hôtel Apocalypse is an album destined to matter, judging by the rapturous response from critics and the public alike. Simply put, it’s the best French rock album of the season a miraculous record, according to Eric Bureau of Le Parisien.
And live, Daran’s success shows no signs of slowing! Reuniting with his audience on the first leg of the tour was deeply emotional, and the new power trio format, featuring Roman Gaume on guitar and Romain Viallon (ex-Luke) on drums, has thrilled longtime fans.
Don’t miss Daran on saturday, June 27th at the Cogeco Garden stage, starting at 6 PM.
