Fabiola Sings Cabrel – Encore et encore
I was 14 the first time I heard a song by Francis Cabrel. My brother was playing C’était l’hiver on the guitar, and I was overwhelmed by the beauty of its melody and lyrics—simple yet perfect metaphors! It was the first of many songs I would learn by heart, as Cabrel’s music instantly became a part of me.
Since then, his work has followed me, discreetly, like a confidante, though I haven’t often sung it.
This year, I’m giving myself the gift of softness, tenderness, and the poet’s quiet rebellion, one who denounces everyday injustices without ever having to raise their voice—Est-ce que ce monde est sérieux?
From the very first chords, he casts a spell, and we start singing without even thinking, as if these melodies had always existed—C’est écrit!
The musicians joining me share this certainty: there’s no need to overdo it when everything is already there. But whatever we do will be done with generosity and sincerity. Piano, guitar, double bass, harmonies, your voices blending with mine the old prison stage will become a bubble where the songs of Francis Cabrel will echo Encore et encore!
It will be a Friday, late afternoon, but for the occasion, we’ll pretend it’s a Saturday night on Earth—Un samedi soir sur la Terre —in Trois-Rivières.
Don’t miss Fabiola Toupin on Friday, June 27, on the Trou du Diable Old Prison stage at 5:00 PM!
