Grand Eugène, the Quebec duo of Melyssa Lemieux and Jeremy Lachance, moves between the urgency of creation and the quiet space of memories that are hard to tell. Their debut album, Deux places au cimetière, reveals an agile indie rock spirit that shifts with emotion both gentle and piercing.
Their paths have long been intertwined, from CEGEP classrooms to Montreal apartments and the open roads of western Canada. When their project took shape in 2023 with a self-titled debut EP, their vision was clear: to craft a dreamy indie sound carried by Melyssa’s whispered vocals and Jeremy’s lush arrangements. Songs like “Celle-là” and “Danser” quickly gathered hundreds of thousands of streams, drawing attention from listeners on both sides of the Atlantic.
In 2024, the duo released their second mini-album, Les vacances d’été, performing across Quebec (FEQ, Francos, Santa Teresa, FME) and touring in France.
With Deux places au cimetière, Grand Eugène delivers a first full-length album with a slightly grunge-tinged evolution of their indie sound. The record, written and recorded between Saint-Hugues, Montreal, Paris and even Jeremy’s old van sometimes with only a laptop mic captures an unstoppable creative momentum. Like a flower growing on a tombstone, their music blooms everywhere, comforting broken hearts and giving life to fleeting moments.
Don’t miss Grand Eugène on Sunday, June 28th, on the Port de Trois-Rivières Dock stage starting at 6:00 p.m.
